The exhibition

Baldassarre Castiglione and Raffaello art show, Urbino starts again from two of its protagonists the great artist and the intellectual. The relationship between Raphael and Baldassarre Castiglione. The exhibition will be inaugurated on July 18, 2020, while it will open to the public the following day. The exhibition entitled “Baldassarre Castiglione and Raphael. Faces and moments of court life” was curated and established by Vittorio Sgarbi and Elisabetta Soletti. This will be the beginning of Raphael’s celebrations throughout the Marche region and the city of Urbino. This exhibition in fact falls in the commemoration of the 500th anniversary of the death of the great artist Raphael.

The exhibition is also promoted by the Marche Region and the City of Urbino, in collaboration with the Galleria Nazionale delle Marche. You can visit this beautiful exhibition until November 1, 2020. The place of the exhibition is the halls of the Castellare of the Ducal Palace of Urbino. But let’s talk more about the protagonists of the exhibition. Baldassarre Castiglione, born in Mantua but then raised in Urbino, mainly known for his work the Cortegiano. In his work he talked about the model of behavior for the high society of the entire continent, for this reason it was translated into different languages.

The intellectual

After his work, Baldassarre was considered an intellectual of the highest level and this allowed him to be close to many artists, writers, poets, rulers and popes. But in particular he was very close to the famous artist of Urbino, Raffaello. The exhibition that will be held in Urbino from July 18, deals with the path that this intellectuals had with Raffaello but also with other people in view of time. Such as Leo X, the Medici, the Sforza, the Gonzaga and Isabella d’Este, and other artists Leonardo, Titian, Giulio Romano. All this has been reconstructed thanks to the letters he left.

In the exhibition we find the collection of Baldassarre Castiglione, some works by Raphael, but that will only be copies at the exhibition. Made by the famous Lino Frongia, who makes fakes absolutely equal to the famous works. Inside the exhibition you will also find clothes of the time, weapons, ancient editions and manuscripts, music, coins and medals.

The exhibition has therefore the ultimate goal to convey the cultural climate of Urbino Renaissance. At the end of the presentation the mayor of Urbino Maurizio Gambini and the director of the Galleria Nazionale delle Marche will give visitors a single ticket of 12 euros per exhibition and gallery.
