The latest edition of Lonely Planet strongly recommends Bari, placing it among the ten best European destinations for 2019.
This comes as a surprise for many Italians. Indeed, they do not value this city from the point of view of tourism and architecture. Which is unfortunate. Rather, they tend to see it only as an important port and the seat of the Fiera del Levante. Although this was the homeland of that Santa Claus, which appears around Christmas, driving a flying sleigh pulled by reindeers.
Bari is the capital of Puglia, with 1,300,000 inhabitants. In the last 20 years it has made great strides in the tourism sector.It also kept well its port. If properly connected, the port can become a point of commerce in Europe. As provided by the plan “One Belt One Road” which see this city as the point of arrival and departure of goods from the East and to the East. Additionally, it requires a high-speed railway line in order to connect the land and the sea. Ambitious, but it is far from impossible.

Bari’s cuisine is famous in Italy and around the world for its variety. Especially for pasta and legumes! Furthermore, there are theaters to entertain the most cultured guests: the Petruzzelli, Margherita and Piccinni and then there are the old hotels renovated. There is a strong and well-integrated Chinese community in Bari which contributes to the growth of the city and it is seen with great sympathy by native baresi.
