Lecce in the center of the world
The Salento region
Lecce in the center of the world, this beautiful city in the southernmost part of Puglia is doing a lot of talking lately. The region of Puglia in recent years has put a lot of emphasis on tourism, thus creating campaigns of rediscovery of the territory for the Italians. But it has also been sponsored a lot abroad, especially after the marriage between Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel in Salento. The wedding was celebrated in the famous Borgo Egnazia, today one of the most famous resorts in the world. Just in these days many VIPs are staying in this Borgo, like the Beckham family.
But what has brought the city of Lecce to be in all the newspapers in the world, is the Dior haute couture fashion show 2020. The beautiful fashion show in fact took place in the city of Lecce a few days ago.
The creative director of the Maison Dior Maria Grazia Chiuri, decided among all the cities in the world to bring the fashion show in this city in the deep south of the Italian peninsula. It was a special event for the fashion house Christian Dior, because for the first time the haute couture fashion show took place outside Paris.
Dior fashion show
The scenography of the fashion show was inspired by the typical Apulian village party Luminare. The Luminares were made by local artisans, and designed by Marinella Senatore. In total there were 30 thousand Led lights, to transmit a unique show.
The music used is also typical of Salento. Orchestra della Notte della Taranta conducted by Paolo Buonvino, with “pizzicata” music. There were also dancers from Salento who danced the typical “tarantella” dance. The collection itself was a complete homage to the beloved land of origin of the designer’s family, who has been running the Dior maison since 2016. Maria Grazia Chiuri has Salento origins, and her character tenacity handed down from her land, allowed her to become the first female creative director of the French maison.
All the clothes in the fashion show are a tribute to local craftsmanship. In fact, the jackets in the collection come from the Costantine weaving workshop. An association of women based in Uggiano La Chiesa that also protects the culture of lace at the tombolo.
